Outside Shower Games

Playing outdoor party games adds a breath of fresh air and sunshine to a shower. Whether for a mother-to-be or a soon-to-be bride, a shower is a time to give gifts and share in the joy of the impending event. Showers are often held in homes or banquet halls, but during the warm and dry months of the year, an outdoor location is a welcome change. A park, public garden or someone's backyard may be the location of the fun and games of the day.
  1. Shower Scavenger Hunt

    • A scavenger hunt is an activity that may be enjoyed by persons of all ages. In relation to a bridal or baby shower, the hunt can be a humorous way to pass the time while enjoying the essence of the occasion. For an outdoor baby shower, hide diapers, rattles, small baby dolls, onesies, little socks, bottles and other baby items around the outdoor area. For a bridal shower, the items may include play gold rings, flowers, ribbons or other wedding-associated pieces. One may forgo the variety of items and simply go for one particular item, such as safety pins or ribbon bows hidden amongst the grass, trees and shrubs. Have a small prize prepared for the first guests to find all the items, or the one to find the most in a given time period.

    Fill in the Blanks

    • The Fill in the Blanks game is one of imagination and humor which works well for an outdoor event. The game begins with each person picking a letter of the alphabet and writing it at the top of a piece of paper. Have each player pick a person's name, the name of a place such as a state or country, and a mode of transportation that begin with the letter she chose. Each guest creates a story with her words, acting out parts. For example, if a person picks the letter "B," she might say "Bob is going to Billings, Montana in a boat" as she pretends to row a boat. The next person must repeat the previous story and add hers while the first continues to row the boat. The game continues until all persons read and act out their stories.

    Dress the Bride/Baby

    • An active outdoor game for a baby or bridal shower involves dividing the guests into two teams and creating a relay race. For a baby shower, a baby doll for each team is needed. For a bridal shower, one member of each team acts as the bride. On go, each team shuttles back and forth from a given point with items for the bride or baby. For example; one player may pick up a diaper from a given pile and run to put it on the baby, then return to the group. The next person may take a bottle to the baby, and the next a rattle. For a bride, they may take a veil, flowers, rings, a handkerchief and shoes.

    Prepare for the Weather

    • When planning games for an outdoor shower, always consider the factor of weather. Even in typically dry seasons, rain may come unexpectedly. For this reason, plan games which may be moved inside if necessary. Pool games or games that involve exclusively outdoor apparatus will leave empty times spaces in the party if the weather does not cooperate.
