Children's Game Ideas and Party Games for Children

Keep children of all ages busy at a birthday party with entertaining games. Create games that appeal to the children to prevent boredom and give the kids a chance to make new friends. Your creativity, imagination and a few supplies are all you need to get the party started. Awarding game winners with prizes, such as toys and candy, will have the children lined up and ready for the next party game.
  1. Balloon Stomp

    • Play a game of balloon stomp using several inflated balloons and some yarn. Make sure each player has shoes on and loosely tie an inflated balloon around each ankle of each player using yarn. When you say, "Go," the players must try to protect their own balloons while trying to pop those of other players. Tell the players they cannot push and shove to try to pop the balloons. The last player with an inflated balloon wins the game.

    Birthday Memory Game

    • Have all the children sit in a circle and tell the birthday child to start the game. The birthday child must say, "For my birthday I want a (the child must name a toy he wants)." The next player in line must say, "For my birthday I want a (the toy the first player said) and a (a toy he wants)." Each child must repeat each birthday item from the previous players in order and a birthday item he wants. If a player messes up or repeats the order incorrectly, he is out of the game. The last player to repeat all the items in the correct order wins the game.

    Pass the Prizes

    • Wrap prizes in several layers of wrapping paper and tell the children to sit in a circle. Hand the prizes to random children in the circle and play music. While the music plays, the children must pass the gifts around the circle. When the music stops, the children holding the gifts must open one layer of wrapping paper. Play the music and keep passing the gifts. The children holding the gifts when the last layer of wrapping paper comes off win the prizes.

    Ring Pass

    • Tell the children to stand in a circle and cut a string long enough to go all the way around the circle. Select one child to be "It" and stand in the middle of the circle. Place four small metal rings on the string and have the children grab onto the string. Each player's fists should be up against the player's fist on each side of him. The "It" player must close his eyes and count to 10, while the players shift the rings around the string. When "It" says, "Freeze," four players must hide the rings in their hands. "It" has four tries to guess a player who has a ring in his hand. If he guesses correctly, that player is the new "It." If not, he must try again. Award prizes to the "It" players who guess correctly within the first four tries.
