Kindergarten Birthday Activities

A birthday party for any kindergartner requires some preparation if you want to keep the birthday guests occupied. Whether the party is at home or in the classroom, birthday activities can complement the event while the kids stay entertained.
  1. Kindergartner Cake

    • Create sets of five cards each with the pictures of the following ingredients printed on separate cards: eggs, flour, sugar, water and frosting. The amount of sets you make depends on the multiples of five players you'll have. Place all the cards in a hat and have each player pick a card. When you say "Go," the kindergartners all have to get in groups of five so each group has a necessary cake ingredient. This activity works best with a large group of at least 20 players.

    Birthday Word Chain

    • Assemble the players in a sitting circle. Pick one of the children to start. She has to say a word that pertains to the theme of birthdays. For example, she can say anything from "cake" to "presents" to "balloons." Once she finishes saying her word, the player to her right has to repeat the first player's word and add his own, using the same birthday theme. This pattern of repeating the players' words that came before and adding your own continues, with every player who forgets a word getting disqualified until only one player --- the winner --- remains.

    Mystery Gift Pass

    • Place a birthday prize in a box, then wrap the box with several layers of wrapping paper. In between each layer, place a note instructing the person who reads it to do something silly, like hop on one foot or sing a song while pinching his nostrils close. Sit the players down in a circle and turn on some music. The players pass the box around until you randomly turn the music off. The player left with the present unwraps one layer of wrapping and performs the action written on the note. Continue playing until the box is opened and the winner gets the prize.

    Guess What?

    • Gather an assortment of foods the kindergartners will like, and some they won't like. Wrap each item in aluminum foil and place them in a paper bag. You want to have three paper bags with the same items in each bag. Place the paper bags a few feet away from each other at the end of the play space. Divide the players into three teams and line them up parallel to a paper bag. When you say "Go," the first players in each team race to their bags, pull out one item each, unwrap them and eat them, no matter what it is. He then has to head back to his team for the next player in line to go. The first team to empty their bag wins the game.
