How to Make a Scavenger Hunt With a Gift

A scavenger hunt is a fun way to enjoy a birthday or a specific holiday. Your list of items can reflect any theme you choose. An outdoor nature theme, for example, could include items such as a yellow leaf, pine cones, clover, or a paw print in the dirt. Whoever collects all the items wins a prize gift. You can also plant clues that lead to a final prize gift.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide whether the scavenger game will be for adults or children.

    • 2

Determine the appropriate setting for the group. In the summer, you may want to select a park. During winter months, you may want to host the hunt in a large, indoor facility where there are lots of places to hide clues. If you are planning a scavenger hunt for small children, you need to be aware of safety issues so that no child would end up in an isolated area on their own seeking a clue, or go near water unattended.

    • 3

Prepare clues for the group according to the number of participants. For just one person celebrating a birthday, for example, you will only need one set of clues for them to follow. For a group such as a baseball team, you will need to write multiple sets of clues.

    • 4

Write clues on paper that are age appropriate and that fit any theme you might be using. Write clues that link first to each other and then to the final clue, or you can create a list of items to find. Have individuals looking for clues and arrange participants in teams. Use scavenger hunt riddles for experienced players or draw pictures for very young clue seekers.

    • 5

Hide the clues or items in places where they are not readily seen, but not so well that no one can ever find them. Prepare a gift for the winner or winners, which should be age appropriate and fit your theme.
