Ideas for Treasure Hunt Cards

You can hold a treasure hunt for a party, church event or even as part of a marriage engagement. Just hide special clue cards around your home, town, shopping mall or church. They can be riddles or poems or photographs, but the trick to making the hunt interesting is having interesting-looking clues.
  1. Movie Clips

    • Clues can be hidden in movie clips.

Have a video tape or DVD with movie clips that will give the players a clue. It could include a character mentioning a street name or place where the next clue is located. The players will have to find a DVD player or VCR in order to see the clue.

    Construction Paper Shapes

    • Create clues by cutting shapes from construction paper.

Cut some construction paper into a shape that is the clue. For example, if the next clue is underneath a ceramic bird, cut the construction paper into a bird shape. Write a simple message onto the clue.

    Puzzle Pieces

    • The players will have to put the puzzle together to read the clue.

Write the clue on the back of 12-piece children's puzzle. You can draw a map or write a clue on the back of the puzzle and then scramble the pieces. The players will have to put the puzzle back together in order to see the clue.

    Pirate Clues

    • Use a "treasure map" for clues.

Burn the edges of a piece of paper with a lighter and write the clue long-hand onto the paper. Roll the paper into a scroll. This is the perfect style for a pirate party. You can even put the clue in a bottle for added flair.

    Memorable Music

    • This clue is a clue for the romantic type. Put a song on a CD or cassette tape that will evoke special memories of a place that the player will remember. If the song was playing on your first date at a nearby restaurant, place the next clue in that restaurant.
