Instructions for Guesstures

Guesstures is a family-friendly game similar to charades, in which players act out words or phrases and teammates try to guess what they are. In addition to being an option for party games or family night, authors McKay Moore Sohlberg and Catherine A. Mateer, in their book "Cognitive Rehabilitation," suggest Guesstures as one of several games that "promote interaction or help people work in teams."

Instructions

    • 1

Create two teams and name them. If you do not have an even number of players, just divide as closely as possible. Having one extra player will not give a team a significant advantage.

    • 2

Write your team names on the Mimer-Timer. Look for the side decorated with the labels "CAST" and "SCENE," and place the team names at the top of each side of the outlined table with the provided crayon.

    • 3

Pull four blue cards from the included card box and choose your scenes. Each card has one- and three-point scenes listed, classified by difficulty. Which option you perform from each card is your choice.

    • 4

Arrange the blue cards facing you with your selected scenes at the top. Sort them by difficulty based not only on points but on how quickly you feel your team can guess the answers.

    • 5

Place your cards in the Mimer-Timer from easiest to hardest, following the labels from left to right.

    • 6

Instruct your team to begin calling out guesses as soon as you start acting.

    • 7

Pull down the arm on the Mimer-Timer and start performing your scenes. The timer will start the second the arm has closed, so be ready. You must take the scenes in order; the rules prohibit skipping.

    • 8

Remove the card from the Mimer-Timer and move on to the next scene once your team mates have guessed the correct answer. If your team does not call out the answer in time, your card disappears into the Mimer-Timer and you should move on the next scene.

    • 9

Add the points from the cards you were able to remove from the Mimer-Timer and write this under the appropriate team name.

    • 10

Remove any cards your team missed from the Mimer-Timer.

    • 11

Change teams for the next round. The second team will use the red deck.

    • 12

Score the second team and determine the winner.
