Outdoor Water Games

When summer arrives, take the party outside and cool off with water games. Planning a variety of water games to play on a hot, summer day will not only cool down your guests, but also prevent boredom. Awarding small prizes to the winners of each outdoor water game will keep guests looking forward to playing more games.
  1. Pass the Water Balloon

    • Make several water balloons before the party starts. Have all children stand in a circle and give one child a water balloon. Play some party music and have the children pass the water balloon around the circle. When the music stops, the player holding the water balloon is out of the game and has to pop the water balloon over his head. Keep playing until only one player remains. That player wins the game.

    Sweatpants Relay

    • Get two pair of over-sized sweatpants and divide the players up into two even teams. Mark a starting line and another line that are about 20 feet apart. All players line up in their teams at the starting line. Place two buckets of water at the starting line. Give the first player in line a pair of sweatpants. When you yell, "go," the first player in line has to dunk the sweatpants in the water and get them drenched. She must put the pants on, run to the other line and run back. She takes the pants off and hands them to the next player in line. That player must dunk the pants back into the water and do the same thing. The first team to complete the relay wins the game.

    Melt the Ice

    • Divide the players up into teams of three or four players. Give each team a piece of ice. On "go," the first player tries to melt the ice cube by rubbing his hands together. Once his hands get too cold he can pass it to another teammate. The first team to melt its ice cube wins the game.

    Pop That Balloon

    • Fill a medium-size plastic swimming pool and blow up several balloons. Put the balloons in the pool. On "go," let three or four players run to the tub to try to pop a balloon. The balloons are wet and slippery, which makes it hard for the guests to pop. The first player to pop a balloon wins a prize.
