How to Design Your Own Birthday Cake Games

Designing your own birthday-cake games takes a little thought and creativity. Instead of buying games, you can make theme-related games, accessories and activities at home a few weeks or days prior to the birthday. However, before designing your games you should first decide on the birthday theme and purchase decorations, cake, and invitations that relate to that theme. This will help you create theme-related birthday games that integrate well at the party.

Instructions

Plan theme-related games. For instance, in a soccer-themed game, you might make a papier-máché soccer ball costume for an adult, and have children throw wet sponges at the costumed man.

Prepare the birthday-cake games ahead of time. Make games like pin the birthday candle on the cup-cake. Cut and glue a felt fabric cup-cake on a large piece of felt fabric which will be your wall poster. Cut birthday candles out of felt, and glue Velcro to the back. Glue two ends of a small piece of cord or rope to the top of the poster to make a hanger and hang from a wall. Before cutting the birthday cake, kids can play pin the birthday candle on the cup-cake, just like they would pin the tail on the donkey. This type of birthday cake game also makes a nice decoration for the party and can be made according to the birthday- party theme.

Fill a piñata with candy prior to the party. Hang it in the center of a room or outside from the branch of a tree. During the party, help children take turns hitting it. When it breaks, kids can pounce in to get as much candy as they can. Have an adult available to help kids share the candy.

Organize materials for an arts &crafts activity that can take place before cutting the cake. Purchase colorful beads, accessories, clay and other materials that can be used to make necklaces, bracelets or key chains. Prior to the party, set a couple of tables and chairs in an out-of-the-way area. Place the art materials in the center of the table and label the area the arts &crafts area.

Research birthday traditions practiced by other cultures. Apply some of these traditions to your own birthday-cake games. For instance, in Mexico, a parent pushes a birthday boy or girl's face slightly into a corner of the cake, requiring them to take a huge bite directly out of the birthday cake getting cake all over their face. In Canada, the birthday child has his nose greased with butter or margarine. In Brazil, the birthday person receives a pull on his earlobe for every year since his birth. These practical jokes bring laughter to all the invited guests. Play wildly funny clown music in the background as you perform the birthday- cake activity in clownlike exaggerated fashion.
