Ideas for Church Carnival Games

Church carnivals bring together members of the church and community in a safe environment. Be sure to plan a variety of carnival games that provide entertainment for children. These games keep the children interacting throughout the event, which can work as an icebreaker for children to make new friends. Awarding small prizes to game winners keep the children involved in the games.
  1. Noah's Beanbag Toss

    • Use a large board and cover it with a poster board. Draw animals on the poster board and cut out a hole for each animal's mouth. Use beanbags or socks filled with beans and tied off with string. Give each child three beanbags and let him try to throw them into the mouths of the animals. If the child makes a beanbag, award him with a small prize.

    Rubber Ducky Game

    • Fill a small plastic swimming pool with water and several rubber ducks. Use a permanent marker to write the letter S, M or L on the bottom of each duck. Arrange three boxes with small, medium and large prizes. Let each child select a duck from the pond. If a child gets a duck that has the letter "M" on it, he chooses a prize out of the medium bucket.

    Lollipop Tree Grab

    • Purchase several bags of lollipops and mark a dot on the bottom of some of the lollipop sticks. Put the lollipops into a lollipop tree, which are available online and at retail stores. Let each child select a lollipop. If the lollipop has a dot on the stick, she wins a prize, if not, she still gets to keep the lollipop.

    Ladder Toss

    • Put buckets on each step of a ladder. Each child gets three tries to make the ball into the buckets. However, the child must start at the bottom of the ladder and work his way up. If the child makes the ball in each bucket, he wins a prize.

    Shoot Out That Flame

    • Use tapered candles in dishes that stand up and arrange the candle on a board. Give each child a water gun to try to shoot out the flame. Each child has one minute to put out the flame. If she succeeds, she wins a prize. Do not use powerful water gun, as these can knock down the candles.

    Prize Walk

    • Place pieces of construction paper numbered on the ground, in a circle. Write down the same numbers on pieces of paper and put them in a bowl. Have the children walk around the circle while music plays. When the music stops all children stand on a number. Someone draws a number out of the bowl and the child standing on that number wins a prize.
