Easy Kids Games for 2-Year-Olds

Everyone knows that children learn through play. Playing games is a fun and easy way to teach toddlers social skills, gross motor skills, fine motor skills and thinking skills. A number of games that are suitable for older children can be customized to make them appropriate for toddlers. Don't save game playing for birthday parties; use games regularly to aid in your child's development.
  1. Hide and Seek

    • Choose a small item such as dinky cars, LEGOs, plastic teacups or balls and hide 10 of the items around the house. Give your toddler a basket. Tell him that the toys are hidden and he is going to have to find them. Give clues like "hot" and "cold" to help your toddler locate the hidden items and offer praise when he is successful.

    Where Are Puss' Boots?

    • Draw a picture of a cat on seven sticky notes. Draw a pair of boots on three sticky notes. Scatter all of the pictures, sticky side up, over the floor. Explain to your child that Puss has lost his boots and he needs to help you find them. Demonstrate how to do this by placing your palm on one of the sticky notes and turning it over. If you find Puss, say, "No boots there." Let your child follow your example and place their palm on a sticky note. If she finds the boots, say, "Yay! You found Puss' boots. Now his feet won't be cold anymore." Continue to play until your child loses interest.

    Beanbag Toss

    • Cover three plastic ice cream containers with construction paper. Write "1 Point" on two of the containers and "2 Points" on the other. Set the containers on the floor with the "1 Point" containers in front of the "2 Points" container. Place your child several feet away from the containers and have him toss beanbags until he gets a point.
