80s Trivial Pursuit
We've all heard of---and probably played---the classic trivia-based board game, Trivial Pursuit. Thanks to the game's enduring popularity, the manufacturers have come up with some variations and special editions of the game. One of these that's ideal for adults is the Totally 80s edition---providing those adults are old enough to remember the 1980s, of course.
The Totally 80s edition of Trivial Pursuit combines the traditional elements of the game, with players scrambling to get questions right to earn six pie pieces before their opponents do, with a question bank that's all about 1980s soaps, the music scene, fashions and political events.
Senior Moments
If you're hosting a party for slightly older guests, this board game is an ideal way to have some fun while poking fun at how everyone is turning gray. While the game is suitable too for adults of any age, it works best with players who have had a few senior moments of their own.
The game is set in a "week" of a senior person's life, with the idea being to be the first player to beat your rivals and make it across the game's finish line. To get there, you'll need to survive rounds of trivia questions and puzzle cards. The twist here is that each player begins the game with a number of marbles---cheekily representing the aging process---and failing to complete the game's challenges results in players losing their marbles. If a player loses all of his marbles, it's back to the start for him.
Cocktail Opoly
Here's another twist on a classic game and one that, thanks to its fixation on alcohol, is definitely not for the kids. Cocktail Opoly is based on---you guessed it---Monopoly, the property trading game. While Monopoly is all about buying locations, this game is all about purchasing the cocktails you know and love. Recognizable Monopoly elements, such as the playing pieces and Chance cards, are replaced with cocktail-themed alternatives. So playing pieces include a cherry and an ice bucket, while instead of being sent to jail you might end up with a hangover instead. While the game contains no alcohol, you could combine it with real drinks thanks to the handy cocktail creation tips written on the game's cards.
