Fun Family Games to Play at Home

Time spent with family is important for a healthy home and strong family unit. You do not have to spend lots of money to create a fun time at home. Choose one night a week and make it family game night. Use household items to play games and make memories that kids will cherish for years.
  1. Sardines

    • This game is a variation on the traditional hide and seek. Choose one family member to be “it,” who then hides while everyone else looks for this person. When someone finds “it,” the discoverer must hide with "it." Then the next person who finds “it” squeezes into the space also, much as sardines are packed in a can. Soon it will be difficult for the people in hiding place to refrain from laughing and stay quiet, and they will be found.

    Mummy Wrap

    • Split your family up into two teams. Give each team a roll of toilet paper. Each team should choose one member to be the mummy. Use the toilet paper to wrap the mummy from head to toe, leaving only his eyes and nose free. The team who wraps their mummy first wins.

    Family Trivia

    • Before the game, ask extended family members to reveal something funny or unknown about themselves. This works best with grandparents or other relatives who do not live in the home. Split the family into two teams for the trivia game. Read one fact about an extended family member. Each team has 30 seconds to choose which extended family member the fact is about. Repeat this process for every question. The team with more correct answers wins.

    Scavenger Hunt

    • Separate the family into teams. Give each team a list of items to find inside the house. Use small or unique items to make the game interesting. For example, a bobby pin, an orange peel, and a red sock are items that may take some hunting to find. The team that finds all of the items on its list first wins.
