Lady and the Tramp
While the Disney movie “Lady and the Tramp” is best known for its loving story about a couple of dogs, it’s the movie’s iconic scene of the two canines sharing a single piece of linguine that most people remember—and that can serve as inspiration for your couples’ scavenger hunt. Schedule the hunt around lunch or dinner time so that participants come hungry. Gear the hunt around food items, where couples must take a picture of themselves sharing a single type of food together, such as taking bites out of a slice of pizza, licking an ice cream cone or enjoying sips from a single cup of coffee. Options include scheduling the scavenger hunt in a mall, where the food court will offer a variety of huntable items or around a popular block or two of your town with lots of takeout and casual restaurants. The couple who tackles the most food items with photos to show for it gets a prize (such as a gift certificate to another restaurant).
What a Pair
Scavenger hunts often focus on a list of different items for players to get, but when your scavenger hunt is for couples, you can increase the fun by doubling your “get” list. Instead of requiring players to retrieve one of each item on your list, let them know they must bring back two, but each must be different. If apples are on your list, for example, participants may bring back a Granny Smith and a Pink Lady, but not two Pink Ladies. You can make things a little easier on the players by keeping things general (saying flowers, for example, instead of roses, means the players can bring back two kinds of flowers instead of two varieties of roses).
Date Night
With couples as your teams for a scavenger hunt, you can create a fun and racy treasure list. Before the game, set a specific limit on how much players can spend to purchase items (check receipts at the judging period). Create a list of couples-related hunt items, such as matching lingerie, inexpensive champagne, dark chocolate, romantic greeting cards, a book of poetry and a scented candle. Make the game a special memory with a surprise conclusion—players get to take home their scavenged finds for a romantic couples’ night in.
