Pirate-Themed Games for Kids

Throw your child a pirate-themed birthday party, costumes required! To ensure the children stay busy and have fun, prepare some pirate-themed party games for the kids to play. Be sure to have fun pirate-related prizes on hand for the winners.
  1. Find the Crocodile

    • Set an egg timer and place it in a crocodile stuffed animal or puppet. Hide the crocodile in the yard or around your home. Have the children try to find the crocodile before the timer rings. The child who finds it is the winner.

    "X" Marks the Spot

    • This game is played like pin the tail on the donkey. Draw a treasure map on a large piece of paper or poster board. Decorate it with palm trees, treasure chests and animals. Mark a large "X" on the map signifying the location of the treasure. Make small pirate flags out of pieces of paper with double-stick tape on the backs. For each child&'s turn, cover his eyes with a bandanna, spun him around and point him towards the map, where he will try to pin his pirate flag onto the "X". The closest player to the "X" wins.

    Hook the Treasure

    • Using large plastic cups, cut a hole in the bottom and push a wrapped candy cane through the hole, creating a pirate&'s hook. Empty a bag of pretzels into a large bowl and see how many pretzels the children can hook and drag out. Set a timer to see who can get the most in that time.

    Treasure Hunt

    • Hide random treasures around your house or yard and type out clues to their whereabouts on a sheet of paper. You can also create a map with "X"s on it that signify where the treasure is hiding. Have the children split into groups and see which team can find the most treasures.

    Walk the Plank

    • Create a plank out of a 2" x 4" wooden board. Place it on the carpet or ground and have the children take turns walking across the board. See who can do the funniest jump off the plank to win a prize.

    Treasure Toss

    • Decorate a cardboard box to resemble a wooden chest or use a real chest. Leave the top open during game play. Have the children stand across the room and take turns tossing bean bags into the box. The child that lands the most bean bags in the treasure chest wins.
