How to Make Texas Horseshoes

Texas horseshoes is a game using two boards with consecutive holes cut out of them. The players have to stand in front of their boards and toss small items, usually washers, into the holes for varying amounts of points. You can make your own Texas horseshoe washer boards and play whenever you want. The boards are so lightweight and simple in design that you can bring them along when traveling.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut 2-by-4 lumber into four pieces that are 3 feet each and six pieces that are 15 inches each.

    • 2

Form a rectangular frame with the cut 2-by-4 wood. Place three pieces of the 15-inch 2-by-4 along the top, bottom and middle of the rectangle, between two 3-foot-long sides. Glue the wood pieces together in this shape and make a second frame in the same way.

    • 3

Cut out two sheets of plywood to 3 feet by 18 inches.

    • 4

Make three holes on both sheets of plywood along the length. Make the 3-inch holes with a hole saw bit on a power drill. Place the first hole 8 inches from one end of the sheet, the second at 18 inches and the third at 28 inches. The holes should be centered along the sheet, in a straight row.

    • 5

Lay the plywood sheets on top of the frames so all of the edges line up and attach them with deck screws.

    • 6

Drill two holes into the short end of the frame, each 5 ½ inches from the ends of the frame piece and 8 inches apart from each other. Repeat on the other frame.

    • 7

Coat the frame and the top of the boards with outdoor wood sealer.

    • 8

Pass the ends of a piece of rope from the outside of the frames through the two holes on the end and tie the ends into knots on the inside to form handles.

    • 9

Insert an eye screw into the short end of both boards on the opposite end from the rope handles.

    • 10

Tie a long piece of rope to each of the eye screws to make sure the boards are always spaced evenly. Make the rope as long as you want the boards to be apart from each other.
