Treasure Hunt
A game of treasure hunt can create a novel way to give your guests a tour of your home and engage in conversation with each other. Before the party, hide household items in all the rooms of your house. Hide items such as paper towel rolls, soap, dusters, kitchen items. For example, prop a mop in a corner behind an open door. Choose items your guests will recognize. Print a list of all the items hidden. Guests check off each item they find. Give the game 10 to 15 minutes. The guest who finds the most items wins a small prize.
Foods of the World
A housewarming potluck dinner provides an opportunity to play a map game. Ask guests to bring a dish of food from any region of the world. If guests cannot think of a dish, suggest Mexican food, Boston clam chowder or Southern fried chicken. Ask them to tape a slip of paper with the name of the country or region of origin on the dish. Hang a map of the world near the buffet table. Provide a magic marker. As guests gather for the meal, ask them to identify and mark on the map the origin of each dish. Everybody wins this game. The prize is the delicious food and friendly banter.
Drawing
Guests attend prepared to lavish you, your family and your new home with accolades and anticipation for domestic bliss. Turn the tables and arrange for a drawing in which all guests receive a little something for their attention. Ask guests to put their names on slips of paper and place the paper in a basket. When all of your guests have arrived, hold a drawing. Give the person whose name is drawn first a grand prize of a scented candle. Give each successive guest a small but thoughtful gift. Gifts might include packets of potpourri or a kitchen utensil.
