College Scavenger Hunt Ideas: Complete Tasks

When the typical round of house parties, bar crawls and movie nights begin to make your weekends feel a bit stale in college, try something different and engaging with a group friends to liven your social life up. A scavenger hunt offers exciting group dynamics and a friendly competitive spirit, and it will surely be a night that no one involved will forget anytime soon.
  1. Campus Celebrity

    • Digital cameras help keep track of the scavenger hunt.

Make sure each team has a digital or disposable camera. Task each team with finding a "campus celebrity" and getting a picture with him or her. This person could be a popular athlete or a student leader, such as the student government president or editor of the college newspaper.

    Campus Landmarks

    • Status and other landmarks can become part of the hunt.

By giving clues in riddles or hints, make each team seek out a familiar campus landmark and have the group get photographed doing something funny in front of it, such as striking a humorous pose.

Instruct teams to take care not to commit vandalism. Do not climb, deface, or even photograph a landmark if it is illegal to do so.

    Campus Trivia

    • Scavenger hunters can learn a little history while they compete.

In a variation of the "Campus Landmark" task, have teams compete to get information about your college campus that can only be retrieved by reading plaques or signs associated with landmarks on campus. Though these items may be worded as questions, the actual seeking of the information pushes it into task territory.

    Campus Traditions

    • If your college has any notable traditions, have teams photograph themselves completing these actions. For example, at the University of Pittsburgh, there is a tradition where students will "slide across" or step on the home base memorial of the old Forbes Field during finals time in one of the classroom buildings on campus.

Do not task teams with anything that would require them to enter a locked building or break campus rules.

    Greek Seek

    • Give each team a list of all of the Greek organizations on campus. Tell them to find one member from each fraternity or sorority and get a picture with them. Participants should ask the fraternity or sorority member to display the letters of their organization as proof. Award a point for each photograph.
