Penny Toss
A penny toss involves tossing pennies onto a board full of colored circles. If a penny lands on a certain color, you win a prize. Set the game up by painting colored circles on a large sheet of foam core. Alternately, wrap a polka dot tablecloth or polka dotted wrapping paper around the board. Use a dustpan and hand broom to collect the pennies from the board after each child's turn.
Guess How Many
Fill a large clear plastic jar with animal crackers, wrapped candies or jelly beans. Set out a box to collect guesses. Be sure the kids clearly write their names next to their guess. The winner takes all. Save the large plastic container from pretzels purchased in bulk or use several smaller containers with different kinds of items in each.
Sports Games
You can make a variety of carnival games using supplies you may have in your garage or school gym. Quarterback toss uses a hula hoop, masking tape and footballs. Hang the hula hoop and set up a masking tape line for players to try to toss the football through. Play a free shot game, by having players take three chances to shoot a free throw with a basketball. Set up a golf putter to challenge kids, or have kids toss softballs into a bucket.
Knock Over the Cans
Set up a pyramid of cans on a table. Empty coffee cans work well for this game. Create a line for kids to stand behind. Allow them three tries to knock down the cans with tennis balls.
