How to Make Corn Hole Bean Bags

The classic game of bean bag toss has become known by a variety of names: redneck horseshoes, soft horseshoes, corn toss, etc. In many areas of the southern United States, this game is commonly (and reverently) referred to as cornhole. Part of the popularity of this outdoor party game is the fact that it is quite easy to build a game from scratch. The construction of simple wooden boxes is a snap. If so inclined, you can even make your own cornhole bean bags.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a total of 16 7-inch x 7-inch squares (eight of each color) from the cloth. This will be enough fabric to make four bean bags for each team. For durability and authenticity, it is suggested that the bags be constructed of duck cloth, a popular fabric that can be found at most hobby or fabric shops.

    • 2

Pair two of the matching cloth squares. Once paired, form a pocket by sewing a seam (at least 1/4") into three of the four sides of the fabric.

    • 3

Fill the bag with 2.25 cups of dried corn kernels. Sew a seam (at least 1/4") into the open side of the bag in order to seal. Once the bag is sealed, double-stitch each of the four sides to ensure durability. If not stitched tight, the bags will fall apart after little gameplay.

    • 4

Repeat these steps for each of the fabric squares.
