Adult Action Party Games

Most people encounter action games only at children's birthday parties or not-so-fun work team-building events. But there are several options for adults to get in on the fun, away from those arenas. The next time you're planning a large family reunion, backyard barbecue or casual cocktail affair, consider including some physical games and activities that will get everyone's blood pumping and rekindle fun childhood memories.
  1. Pool Party Games

    • Some adults-only pool parties only offer tropical drinking and grilling-out activities. In fact, many adults (women) are so self-conscious, they don't even bring their swimsuits to a pool party affair. Change the tone at your next event. Inform your guests that there will be action games for all. Get a net and a blowup beach ball (or real volleyball) and start a game of water volleyball. Have a belly flop contest. Do the limbo, complete with an actual bamboo stick or just an old broomstick. Don't forget the pool party music, such as reggae, steel drums or flamenco. The Party Game Ideas website suggests hula-hoop or balloon-popping contests for these types of parties as well.

    Charades

    • Liven up an indoor, evening party with a game of charades. Many adults haven't played this game in years, but they'll remember what to do. Divide the party into two teams and decide upon the charade activities. Some people use charade themes that fit the party guests' personalities and interests. For example, if most of your party guests are avid sports fans, write down current or historical sports figures or events as charade activities. If your guests are big movie fans, use modern actors, actresses and movie titles.

    Dance Games

    • Many people enjoy dancing, and it's a good workout too. There are several ways to incorporate dancing games into your party, especially when most of your guests are couples. Have a sock-hop ('50s music) dance-off with the host and hostess as the judges. Some people might even change up the type of dance music at the end of each song. For example, the contest can start out with a country-western song, then change to salsa music, then change to hip-hop and so on. Another dancing activity that requires guests with good senses of humors is a man belly dance competition. The men cover their faces with scarves and lift (or remove) their shirts to reveal their stomachs. They dance to Arabic or Bollywood music, and the women choose the best dancer.
