Game Ideas for a Harvest Party

When autumn sets in, you may want to throw a party to ring in fall's golden harvest. Though the decorations, food and atmosphere help to create a great party, you cannot go wrong by playing some harvest-themed games that celebrate all the season has to offer.
  1. Ring the Pumpkin

    • Set up a large pumpkin with its stem still attached, some feet away from a starting point. Line up your players behind the starting point and give the first player a few plastic rings large enough to fit around the pumpkin's stem. Aiming for the stem of the pumpkin, have him throw the rings. See how many he gets around the pumpkin, then write the number of times he succeeded onto the sheet of paper. Let all of the guests take a turn ringing the pumpkin stem. The player who rings the pumpkin the most times wins the game.

    Pumpkin Hunt

    • Before the party, gather several small pumpkins and hide them around the play area, preferably in a wooded space. Give each of the players a basket and tell them to search for as many small pumpkins as they can find. The person with the most pumpkins at the end of the game wins.

    Turkey in the Straw

    • Begin the game by throwing a fake plastic turkey into a small kiddie pool. Fill the pool up with straw. Divide the group into two teams and have them stand at a starting point some feet away from the pool. On the count of three, the first player in each team rushes over to the pool and moves his hands through the straw to find the turkey. Keeping track of the time, tell the players to stop after 10 seconds have passed. The next players in both teams then head over to the pool and begin their search for the turkey. The first player to find the turkey in the straw wins the game.

    Corn Husking Race

    • Round up several pieces of unhusked corn and put them in two equal, separate piles. Some distance away, set up two teams at a starting point. When you say "Go," the first players in each team rush over to the pile of corn, grab a piece, husk it and head back to their teams. After the player makes it back, the next person in line races to the pile of corn and performs the same task. The first team to have all of its corn husked completely and all its players back in line wins the game.
