How to Make Your Own Burger Games

Backyard barbecues are a common summer activity and often part of a summer birthday party. Playing games at the barbecue will transform an ordinary barbecue into a party. Keep the games tailored to the barbecue theme of the party such as burger games. You can make taste tests and relays using burgers. If any children are participating in these games, they will need an adult on each team for supervision.

Instructions

  1. Burger Taste Test

    • 1

Divide the party into groups of three people. Each group will compete to make the best tasting burger at the party.

    • 2

Set up a table of ingredients for burgers. Make sure to include spices such as oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, mustard powder, pepper and salt. There should also be fresh ingredients, including a variety of herbs, vegetables, onions, lettuce, pickles, ketchup and mustard. Add some exotic ingredient not traditionally found in a burger such as shrimp, jalapenos or soy sauce. Include beans, flour and tofu as an option to make a vegetarian burger.

    • 3

Give each team five minutes to look at the ingredient table and decide how they are going to make their burger. One team member from each team must go to the ingredient table to gather their ingredients. If a desired ingredient has been selected, they must find an alternative ingredient to use. Speed while collecting ingredients is beneficial to the team members. Each ingredient collected must be included in the burger.

    • 4

The teams must prepare and cook their burgers in 45 minutes. Each team should prepare enough burgers for everyone at the party to taste them. Burgers can be cut into pieces so the teams need to make sure there are toppings on all the pieces.

    • 5

Each person at the party will taste the other team's burgers and rate them on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best) in the areas of taste, originality, appearance and overall. No one should vote for his own team. After the tasting is complete, the scores should be tallied. The team with the highest score wins.

    Burger Relay

    • 6

Divide the party into four members per team. If there are not enough people for even teams, one person on a team can relay multiple times. Set up a table with burger ingredients at the end of the yard. You should have buns, cooked burgers, lettuce, mustard, ketchup, pickles and onion.

    • 7

The teams will be on the opposite sides of the yard. When it is time to go, one member from each team will run across the yard and set the bottom of the bun on the table. They will run back to their team and high-five the next player. The player will run to the table and add a burger patty to the bun, returning to his team. Teams must continue to relay, building their burger with one ingredient at a time.

    • 8

Once the burger has been built, the last team member must run to the ingredient table, eat the burger and return to her team. The first team to have its entire team together with its burger eaten wins.
