Guest Sign In
A guest book is commonly found at formal parties, as it allows friends and family of the guest of honor to write well wishes. A twist on this tradition is a signing board. This can be a large piece of card stock or poster board with a photo of the birthday person, with a wide margin where guests can write messages and birthday wishes. This type of photo board can be made at home or ordered from a professional photographer for an even more formal look. Make sure to leave out plenty of pens or markers for guests to use.
Photo Opportunities
A popular party activity is to place disposable cameras at each seat in the reception room, allowing guests to take their own party photos. For a more unique idea, set up a camera area where guests can take group snapshots that they'll immediately be able to look at and share. Another option is to rent a photo booth, which can be ordered from most large party stores. These photo booths allow guests to keep a strip of photos as a souvenir. Give guests a small photo frame as a party favor to go along with this activity.
Theme Activities
Try organizing games or activities that go along with the theme of the party. If the party has a Vegas theme, set up some poker and craps tables and hire a few dealers to organize the games. If the event has a theater theme, set up a karaoke machine where guests can sing some of their favorite show tunes. If the theme is sports, set up stands with ballpark hot dogs, cotton candy, and popcorn. Using a theme can tie a party together and give it a professional feel, adding to the formal style.
