Christian Party Games for Couples

Everyone enjoys the chance a party gives to mingle with friends, catch up on news and relive good times. Mixing a few games into the party adds high points throughout the evening and keeps the pace of the event lively. Not all games, however, are appropriate for all parties. When hosting a Christian couples party, you'll want to include games with a Christian theme--or games that respect Christian values--and that are designed for teams of two players.
  1. Bible Charades

    • Before the party, prepare slips of paper with Biblical phrases, hymn titles and even Christian movie titles written on them. Fold them and place them in a hat or other container for drawing when the time comes to play. Each couple forms a team and the hosts act as timekeepers, scorekeepers and, when necessary, judges to resolve any stalemates. Decide on a time limit, such as 3 or 5 minutes, then play charades as usual. One team member draws out a slip and pantomimes the information for his partner. If the partner guesses within the time limit, they score a point. At the end of several rounds, the team with the most points wins.

    My Cup Runneth Over

    • Divide the couples, placing one spouse from each pair on opposite sides of the room. Give each spouse on one side a plastic cup and each spouse on the other side a pitcher filled with rice. Now blindfold everyone. On the mark "Go," everyone starts moving. Couples must find each other and attempt to fill the plastic cup with rice from the pitcher without spilling it. The winner is the couple that fills the cup without spilling any rice or that spills the least and ends up with the fullest cup. Dry rice vacuums up easily enough, but laying down a tarp or a few large sheets will save you some housekeeping. Alternatively, move the game outside.

    Charity Begins at Home

    • For this game, ask your guests to bring non-perishable food items for the needy. Supply a list of suggestions, such as canned meat, canned vegetables and fruit, boxed cookies, pasta and bread. Gather the donations on a table or counter. For game play, provide each couple with a shopping bag and a list reading: meat, pasta, bread, two vegetables, fruit and dessert.

Draw last names out of a hat to determine playing order. When you draw a name, that couple retrieves one item on their list from the food pile. Their name goes back in the hat; this stage of the game involves some luck. Keep drawing names, letting one couple at a time select one item. The couples' strategy should be to select the least available items first. At some point, items in certain "shopping list" categories will run out. Whichever couple bags the most items on their list wins. The couple with the least items gets the task of delivering all the items to a food bank.
