Birthday Games for 8-Year-Old Kids

Planning for an 8-year-old's birthday party can take its toll on you when you do not know exactly what constitutes as fun for a child that age. The games you choose may or may not leave the party guests feeling all that thrilled by the end of the celebration. But with a few party games perfect for that age group, you needn't worry about the party any longer.
  1. Mummy Wrap Game

    • To prepare for the game, grab two rolls of toilet paper. Divide the players into two teams, and give each team a toilet paper roll. Each team must select one player out of its group to become the mummy and stand in the middle of the circle. On the count of three, each team must race against the other to wrap its mummy more quickly than the other team. The team that has the whole body of its mummy covered with toilet paper wins the game.

    Mystery Gift Pass

    • When you wrap your child's presents before the party, keep one gift box to play this game. Inside it, place a small present for the winner. Then, wrap the box in several layers of wrapping paper. Between each layer, place a note directing the person reading it to perform an action. For example, you can have the person jump up and down and sing or skip around the room. To play, sit the kids in a circle and hand the present to one child in the group. Turn on some music and direct the kids to toss the gift back and forth within the circle. When the music stops, whomever has the present in his hands has to unwrap one layer and perform the action written on the note. The person who unwraps the last layer gets to keep the present.

    Freeze Dance

    • Gather the kids in a large indoor or outdoor space where you can play music and they can run amok. Turn on said music and tell the kids to dance to their hearts' content. As soon as the music gets turned off, the kids must freeze. This means that if a kid has her hands up in the air just before the music is turned off, she has to keep them in the air. Study the group for about 30 seconds to see if anyone moves. If a kid does not stand completely still, he gets taken out of the game. The last kid left dancing and freezing wins the game.
