Dance Party
One of the many events that occurs in the "Backyardigan's" daily life is dancing. There are many catchy and fun songs composed for the characters to dance to throughout each episode. Hold a "Backyardigans" dance party. Find a CD with "Backyardigans" music. These can be found at most music stores or online. Take your CD player in the backyard and tell the kids the rules of the dance. Essentially, there are no rules. The kids should dance in a wild and imaginative manner. Suggest they try to act out something fun or funny, such as flying a plane or swinging through trees. However, they don't have to act anything out to win. After a few minutes of dancing, give kids awards. These should be fun, such as "best use of arms" or "best foot action." Make sure everyone gets an award.
Treasure Hunt
Another exciting adventure the "Backyardigans" characters embark upon is a treasure hunt. They pretend they are pirates, searching the high seas for treasure. A backyard treasure hunt is easy to set up at your kid's next birthday party. Buy several "Backyardigans" toys, from small games to bigger toys. Hide them in various areas around the yard. However, have one very nice toy available for the winner of the game. Give the kids 15 minutes to find as many toys as they can in the backyard. After the 15 minutes has passed, collect and count the toys. Whoever has the most toys should win the nicer toy. However, all the kids can keep the toys they found, making this a win-win situation for everyone involved. Make sure to make a detailed map of your yard, showing where you put the toys so you can find them later.
Fishing with Tasha
Tasha is the hippopotamus character on the show. One of her favorite activities is fishing. There always seems to be a section of the show where Tasha ends up catching fish. Let your kids fish just like Tasha in this backyard fishing game. Buy a magnetic fishing game and put it in your backyard. Find a doll of Tasha and put a small fishing rod in her hand. This makes it look like she is fishing with your kids. Give each kid two minutes to catch the magnetic fish. Once the two minutes are up, tally up their score and let the next kid get a chance to fish. The kid with the most fish at the end of the game wins. Give each child a small reward, but give the winning kid a nice toy.
