Cool Halloween Party Games

Halloween, stemming from the ancient Celtic festival Samhain and the Christian holiday of All-Hallows Eve, is still a festive time for many today. It is a time for costumes, scares, jack-o-lanterns, tricks-or-treats and parties, and with parties come Halloween party games. Party games are a way to incorporate fun-filled interaction between guests and a good way to keep a party flowing smoothly.
  1. Candy-O-Lantern Toss

    • Plastic pumpkin pails for your Candy-O-Lantern toss

Candy-O-Lantern is a Halloween party game that can be played at a children or adult party. All you need is a medium-size plastic pumpkin pail typically used by children for trick-or-treating, enough candy for each guest to take six turns. Place the pumpkin pail a determined distance from the tossing line that is marked by a strip of tape. Each guest will take a turn tossing a piece of candy into the pumpkin pail. Keep score to determine which party guest got the candy into the pumpkin pail the most times, and that person wins the pail of candy.

    Wrap a Mummy

    • Wrap a Mummy can be fun no matter the age of the party guests. Split the guests into groups of four; one will be the mummy and the other three will do the wrapping. Provide toilet paper to each group. The object is to see which group can finish wrapping their Halloween mummy first. There are variations of this game that can be incorporated to add even more fun, such as allowing each group to decorate and dress-up their Halloween mummies. This does not have to be a game that rewards a winner, or winners can be determined by which group was the fastest, best-decorated and funniest.

    Halloween Pumpkin Hunt

    • Hunt for pumpkins on Halloween

Halloween Pumpkin Hunt is a spin-off of the classic Easter egg hunt game. Hide small plastic pumpkins all over the place where the party is being held, making sure to note the number of pumpkins hidden and their location so that party host can determine whether all pumpkins have been found. Start all guests at the same time and allow them to search for all the hidden pumpkins. The Halloween party guest that has found the most pumpkins wins a prize.

Pin the Nose on the Witch

    • Play Pin the Nose on the Witch

Pin the Nose on the Witch is a Halloween game that is adapted from the birthday party game Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Draw, print or purchase a picture of an ugly witch. Then cut out long crazy shaped noses from green construction paper. Hang the picture of the witch on the wall at the proper height for the guests who will be attending the Halloween party. Blindfold each contestant with a bandana. Place one of the noses with tape at the end in the hand of the blindfolded guest. Spin guest three times and let them go. The guest that gets the nose closest to the actual witch's nose wins the Halloween game. This game can be done in different variations. For example, "Pin the nose on the Jack-o-Lantern, Stem-on-the-Apple, Hat-on-the-Scarecrow, or a variation best suits your party theme, according to the site AmazingMoms. (see reference 1)"
