Games to Play at an Adult Birthday Party

While you plan for a loved one's birthday party, you'll likely worry over decorations, food and gifts before the planning is complete. But don't forget about one of the most important aspects of the party---the games. Even adults need entertainment, so give everyone a reason to laugh and enjoy themselves with some memorable party games.
  1. Quick Name

    • If you need an icebreaker to get your party guests mingling, try the Quick Name game. Ask players to sit in a circle and give one a softly textured ball. That person has to say her name then introduce a category, such as "birthdays." She then throws the ball randomly to someone in the circle who has to repeat the name of the person who threw the ball, and say a word that's related to birthdays, or whatever the category. If a person forgets a name or mistakes the category and says an unrelated word, he is disqualified and leaves the circle. The last person remaining in the circle wins the game.

To Speak or Not to Speak

    • Before your party guests arrive, think of approximately 10 words that relate to birthday parties (i.e., cake, candles or presents) or the birthday boy or girl (i.e., favorite things, nicknames, etc.). On a white board or a large piece of paper write these "forbidden" words down so that when the guests arrive, they can clearly see them. Give each person a goodie bags filled with 10 pieces of candy. Every time the guests catch a person saying one of the forbidden words, he has to give away one piece of candy. By the end of the party, the person with the most candy wins the game.

    Shoe Shuffle Game

    • A fun adult game to play involves having guests take off their shoes. Unbeknownst to them, mix up the shoes in a big pile so that the players will have a harder time finding theirs. Randomly divide the group into two teams, and line each team up at a starting point some distance from the pile of shoes. The first player on each team has to run to the pile of shoes, find their shoes, put them on and run back to their team. This process continues down the line until all the players on one team---the winning team---are wearing their shoes and back in line.
