Winter Themed Group Games

Winter means three things to any person living in the colder parts of the United States: snow, runny noses and cabin fever. Cure the third issue by planning winter themed group games for your friends and family that make the most of the snow blanketing your area.
  1. Winter Tug of War

    • Play a game of tug of war, with a winter twist. Divide your group into two teams and have them line up facing each other while holding onto a long rope. Use a shovel to mark a line or trench in between the two teams. On go, the teams will begin tugging on the rope. The first team that successfully makes the other team fall over the center mark wins a prize.

    Snow Ball Tag

    • Divide everyone into two teams. Form a snowball and tint it red with food coloring. Give the snowball to one of the teams and ask each team to stand on opposite ends of a large yard or field behind a line in the snow, which can also be made with food coloring. The team with the snowball forms a huddle so the other team cannot see who has the snowball. Both teams run toward the other team's line. If the person holding the snowball successfully makes it to the other line without being tagged by a member of the opposing team, his team gets a point. If he gets tagged, the snowball changes hands and it is the opposing team's turn. The first team to three points wins.

    Snowball Pass

    • Form 18 snowballs and tint six snowballs red, six blue and six green. Divide the members of the group into two teams. Line each team up and hand them three snowballs of each color. Ask each team to designate one member as the target. Have the target of the first team stand in front of the second team. The first team quickly calls out three colors found on the snowballs. Three members from the second team must then throw out one snowball each at the target, but they must be the three colors called by the first team in the order called. The teams switch and the game is played two times. The team that successfully throws the correct snowballs wins.
