Things You'll Need
Instructions
Determine an approximate expenditure allowance per gift. This might be $5, $10, or under $20.
Instruct each party guest to bring one wrapped gift, unmarked (no gift tags) to the party. Inform them of the price range of the gift, as determined by the previous step. If a couple is attending the party, they will bring two gifts. If a family of five is attending, they will bring five gifts.
Determine a head count of everyone attending the party.
Number small pieces of paper, beginning with number one. If 20 people are attending the party (including the host), then number slips of paper 1 through 20.
Fold up each piece of paper so the numbers are hidden, and place them all in a bowl.
Arrange a table for the gifts. When the guests arrive, place the gifts on the table. Don̵7;t draw attention to who brought what gift.
Have each person select a piece of paper. The number each person picks will determine the order of the game.
Instruct the holder of the piece of paper numbered ̶0;1̶1; to select a gift. That person will then open the gift they select, and show it to the group.
Instruct the holder of the piece of paper numbered ̶0;2̶1; to select a gift. That person will then open the gift they select, and show it to the group.
Allow the person holding the number 2 paper, to keep the gift they selected or swap it with number 1.
Continue opening all the gifts, going in the numbered order. After each person unwraps a gift, he or she has the option to keep the gift they selected or swap it with one of the unwrapped gifts.
Allow the person holding the number 1 ticket to make the final swap. After all the gifts have been unwrapped, the person who opened the first gift will have the option of swapping gifts with anyone else, without risk of losing the chosen gift.
