Pop Star Icebreaker
If your teen invites friends to her party who may not know one another, organize an icebreaker game to encourage the guests to introduce themselves and chat. As the guests enter the party, place a self-adhesive label on each teen's back that bears the name of a pop music singer or band. The guests must walk around the room to ask the other teens "yes" and "no" questions to figure out the names on their backs. Encourage the teens to ask each guest only one question to ensure they mingle with everyone.
Candy Hunt
Satisfy each guest's sweet tooth with an indoor or outdoor candy treasure hunt. Hide an assortment of 30 to 50 goodies ranging from single wrapped pieces of candy to packs of gum to candy bars around the house or yard. Give each guest a small bag to collect as much candy as he can in two minutes. If desired, place a star sticker on five random pieces of candy and award a prize such as candy store gift cards to the teens who find one of the "star" treats.
Song Charades
Allow the guests to test their music knowledge with a simple group game. Write the names of 20 to 30 songs that the teens will know on pieces of scrap paper. Fold the pieces of paper in half and place them in a container such as a basket or shoebox. Divide the teens into two teams. Tell a player from the first team to come up, pick a slip of paper and "act out" the song title without singing or speaking. If her team can't get the correct song title in one minute, the other team has a chance to guess. Invite a player from the second team to pick a different slip of paper and repeat the process. Let the teens play until one team reaches five points.
Mall Scavenger Hunt
Turn older teens loose at the mall for a scavenger hunt. Divide the group into three or four teams and give each team a digital camera and a list of items they must find, such as a slice of pizza, a pair of gloves or a pearl earring. Instruct the teams to find and take a digital photo of each item. The first team to return with all of the photos on its memory card wins. If you want to play the teen party game with guests who aren't accustomed to going to the mall alone, send an adult with each group to ensure the children don't get lost or become a nuisance to shoppers or store employees.
