Cool Games to Play at a Gathering

Games at a gathering can often help create a fun party atmosphere that would be absent without them. There are many traditional games, such as charades, and several different types of board games that work well for such occasions. But if you're in the mood to try some unique and silly games for any age, there are many games that will surely make your gathering memorable.
  1. Getting to Know You

    • A perfect game for a gathering among friends or family involves guessing which pieces of history belong to which people in a group. According to the website Party Game Ideas, everyone in the group can write down on a piece of paper something they have done in their life that no one else in the group knows about. These pieces of paper will then be read aloud as people write down their guesses. In the end, you can go through the group and determine which person did what and see who in the group gave the most correct guesses. That person wins the game.

    Two Truths, One Lie

    • To learn more about a group of acquaintances, you can each say three statements about yourself; two of the statements have to be true, while one of them has to be false. The group members all vote on which of the statements is a lie. Then, the person who made the statements tells which is the lie, and you repeat the process until everyone has given their three statements. Though the game does not offer a competition, you can learn more about the people at the gathering and share in a few laughs, as well.

    Describe Me

    • If you're having a party to get people to mix and mingle, Describe Me is a great game to play. As soon as people start arriving to your home, place a piece of paper or an index card on their backs and supply everyone with a writing utensil. Then, as everyone begins to meet each other, they can write a small phrase or term that describes the person on the index card of the person they've talked to. Make sure that people are warned against writing anything mean or hurtful; the comments should be funny, like "hot lips" or "smooth talker." At the end of about 20 minutes, or once everyone has met each other, your guests can all look at their cards and laugh at the results.

    Ha

    • A great game to set the mood for a silly and fun night involves each member of the party lying flat on their backs next to each other. Every person should then place their right hand on the stomach of the person beside them. The first person in the line of people laughs a single "ha." The person beside him then adds a laugh with a "ha ha." The group then continues this pattern of adding a single "ha" with each new person in line, eliminating anyone who giggles out of turn or laughs an incorrect amount of times. The person left on the ground wins the game.
