Cars Birthday Party Game Ideas

A cars-themed party is a wonderful way to celebrate the birthday of a race car fan. You can make every element of the party from the decorations to the cake fit in with the theme, even the games. The guests at the party can be the driver, the pit crew and the crowd with some fun cars-themed birthday party games.
  1. Miniature Car Races

    • Have the car party guests race miniature cars down a homemade ramp. Offer the guests a variety of small cars, such as Hot Wheels, and tell them to select the one that they believe will be fastest. Then, take a wide board and prop it up on the seat of a chair to form a ramp. Tell the guest to place their cars at the top of the ramp. Tell the guests to release their cars when you say go. Say, "on your mark, get set, go!" Watch the cars race the bottom of the ramp; the first car to clear the bottom of the board wins.

    Obstacle Course

    • Set up two identical obstacle courses in the yard using miniature traffic cones. Decorate boxes to look like cars and cut a hole through the bottom of each box, large enough for each kid to fit into. Have the kids put their boxes on. Show the kids how they will need to travel through the obstacle course. Divide the kids into two teams and have them relay race through the obstacle courses. The first team to get all their members through the course wins.

    Pit Crew Race

    • Take a large piece of cardboard and paint it to look like the side of a race car. Cut two 2 liter soda bottles in half and discard the bottom portion of each bottle. Trace the mouth of each bottle onto a thick paper plate. Cut this circle out of each plate using a craft knife. Trace the mouth of each bottle onto a coffee can lid and then draw a bigger circle around the circle that you just traced. Cut the bigger circle out and then cut the smaller circle out so that you have a small doughnut shape. Cut along the wide open end of each half bottle every inch so that you make little tabs. Fold the tabs out and use them to attach the bottles to the cardboard piece with the mouth of each bottle facing out. Show the kids how the tire should be put on the axle by placing the paper plate onto the mouth of the bottle, followed by the coffee can lid washer and then finally the bottle cap. Once both tires are on the cardboard car split the kids into teams and time how long each team takes to rotate the tires. The fastest team wins.
