Pancake Flipping Game
Flip the pancake in the air and try to catch it in the pan as many times as possible. Play this pancake flipping game at your child's next breakfast birthday party and judge the number of flips and height.
Make several pancakes ahead of time and allow them to cool. Use a lightweight skillet and let the games begin. Let the kids take turns flipping the pancake in the air. The only catch is that you don't get a spatula to help you flip it.
Count the number of flips and the highest flip. See if the child can flip the pancake to the ceiling if you have high ceilings. You could also add another category where you could see if the kids can do a funny trick while flipping the pancake such as hopping on one foot or doing a cartwheel.
Allow the child to flip the pancake until they miss then give the next child a chance. Record the flip number on a sheet of paper. Award a variety of prizes to third, second and first place along with highest flip or funniest flip.
Pancake Pantomime
Have teams make homemade pancakes using the typical ingredients---flour, sugar, milk, and eggs. However, instead of giving the teams a recipe to follow, they must pantomime the ingredients to other teammates to create this confectionary concoction.
Divide the group into teams of two or four. Give one teammate the recipe card along with access to the ingredients, a bowl, measuring cups and spoons, a large spoon, spatula, stove and skillet.
Start the clock and give the teams 15 to 20 minutes to create a batch of pancake mix from scratch, cook two or three pancakes and top them with the item indicated on the recipe card. Once the team guesses the ingredient they are given the correct measurement.
The first team that completes their pancakes with the correct ingredients, including the topping wins the game.
Pancake Sculpture Challenge
Pancakes can be art. Have your guests create an original pancake sculpture that they can put on display during the party. Invite people to judge the sculptures based on a variety of categories such as creativity, originality, or structural soundness. The sculptures must be made completely of edible ingredients. Provide the pancakes, royal icing, and all the fixings. Your guests will supply the creativity and their creation.
Give each "artist" a space to sculpt their pancakes. Be sure everyone has tools to create their sculpture, including pancakes, royal icing, spatulas, knives, and toppings. Provide artists with plenty of time to create their masterpiece. Hold judging after the contest and give everyone a prize for participation.
