Game Show
A home version of a game show popular with the teen birthday party guests provides an entertainment option. Model your game show on one or more real shows your teen watches. Shows such as "The Price is Right," "Jeopardy" or "Family Feud" provide inspiration for homemade versions. Another option is to base the game on reality show challenges similar to those seen on "Survivor" or "The Amazing Race." This allows you to create a series of challenges for the teens. Ideas include eating a plate of Brussels sprouts, putting together a puzzle or shooting baskets while blindfolded. Involve your teen in organizing and developing this activity.
Name That Tune
Put the musical knowledge of the party guests to the test. Ask your teen to help select songs that are popular with her friends. Divide the guests into two teams. Play a short snippet of a song, awarding a point to the first team who can name it. Repeat the process with each new song. For an added challenge, require the teams to name both the title and the solo artist or band who sings the song.
Flashlight Tag
Flashlight tag provides a game option for an outdoor arena at night. The person who is "it" carries a flashlight that she uses to locate other players. Shining the flashlight on another player constitutes tagging him. Once a player is tagged, he joins the efforts of the original tagger, using his own flashlight to tag more players. Setting boundaries for the game play area ensures the safety of teen guests and keeps them close to you for supervision.
