Games to Play at a Campground Party

Camping is a fun excursion for a lot of people. Families and friends who do not live near each other meet at campgrounds for visiting and vacations. It can be a lot of fun when everyone gets together to play games as a group. Of course, there are the traditional games such as horseshoes, badminton and volleyball, but try at least one of these games at your next campout and let the fun begin.
  1. Scavenger Hunt

    • Make a list of items to find in and around the campsite. Make teams find items that are more widespread depending on the age of the participants. Adults can wander a lot farther than a group of kids. Require them to find obscure items. For large, unmovable items, allow the teams to use digital cameras. They must take a picture of themselves standing next to the item. The first team back with all the requirements fulfilled is the winning team.

    ID This

    • This is a great game for kids who are not old enough to wander too far off without adult supervision. Find several items, such as leaves, nuts, bugs and other nature things, before the game begins. Divide the group into even teams. Make sure to spread out the ages. Do not put all the older kids on one team and younger ones on another. Young children may need a little help. Get some field guides and have them available for the kids to use as cheats. Have them identify all of the objects displayed. The first team to identify everything correctly is the winning team.

    Treasure Hunt

    • This game takes some planning beforehand, but it is a lot of fun. Walk around the campground and find a place to hide the treasure. Work your way back to the campground and leave clues for teams to follow. It is easier if you hide the treasure first and place your clues working backward. Send the teams out one at a time. Allow five minutes before sending out the next team. Keep track of the time it takes for the teams to return. The team with the shortest time is the winner. The first team to find the treasure box brings the box back to camp, but is not allowed to open it until all the teams have returned and the winning team is revealed. The winning team can hog all the treasure or you can decide to divide the treasure up between all the participants.
