Halloween Games for Adult Groups

Halloween is a time to dress up and be anyone you want to be, from a farmer to something a little more outlandish like your favorite fantasy movie character. With children running around hopped up on sugar and looking for candy, it's easy to think that Halloween is for kids. But there are a lot of fun activities adults can do during Halloween that might not be as appropriate for the young trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood.
  1. Scavenger Hunt

    • An adult scavenger hunt is always a great way to get everyone moving. Tell all your guests to bring a digital camera, and give each guest a list of things they must do and photograph. You can give everyone the same list and make it a race, or give everyone different tasks and just enjoy the variety of photos participants bring back. Try adding things to the list, such as, "Take a picture with a ghost," or "Go trick-or-treating to neighborhood houses." When everyone gets back, you can browse the pictures over drinks and revel in the absurdity of it all.

    Tell the Tale

    • Tell the Tale is a bit like the classic game telephone. The leader picks a Halloween phrase and whispers it to the person sitting next to him or her. The game continues around the circle until it gets to the last person. The last person says the phrase, and the group laughs at how it changed. You get only one chance to say the phrase and one chance to listen, so be ready! You can mix the game up and make it even more adult by trying to use sexually suggestive Halloween language.

    Name that Horror Film

    • Name that Horror Film is based on the idea that we have all seen the same, tired Halloween movies year in and year out. Make a DVD with 30-second clips from 20 horror movies. Then play the DVD and have guests try to guess what movie the scene is from. You can let everyone yell out when they get the answer, or just have them write it down and tally the scores at the end. You should prepare some sort of reward for the winner, like a spooky Halloween gift basket or candy.

    Drinking Games

    • Scary-movie drinking games are also a great adult way to watch movies you've probably seen too many times. Have everyone in the room get a beer or the drink of their choice, and make rules that whenever certain things happen in the movie, everyone in the group has to drink. For example, if you are watching one of the Freddie Kruger movies, you can make everyone drink whenever you see the famous knifed glove, whenever someone falls asleep, or whenever someone dies. If you are watching a zombie movie, drink every time someone screams, every time someone new joins the surviving group of people, or every time someone freaks out and tries to make a run for it. By the end of the night, those old movies will suddenly seem a lot more interesting.
