Rules of The Moment of Truth

The Moment of Truth is a party game based on the television series that originally aired on the Fox network during 2008 and 2009. The game forces players to answer embarrassing or provocative questions and rewards truthful answers. If you attempt to lie, you'll be forced to take a lie detector test to determine how truthful you are truly being with your answer.
  1. Goal

    • Players of The Moment of Truth must answer questions truthfully or be forced to take a lie detector test. The first player to move her game token up the six spaces of the game board by telling the truth wins the game.

    Setting Up

    • Moment of Truth is meant to be played by three to six players. When you set up the game, split the players into three groups. The host is one player who will read the questions to the contestant. The contestant is the player who must answer the questions that round, all players will eventually become the contestant during the game. The final players will act as the panel of judges, their job is to either agree that the contestant is telling the truth or force him to take the lie detector test. Each player is then given a player token and the host begins the game by drawing one of the question cards from the deck.

    Asking Questions

    • There are multiple types of cards that are in the question deck. Standard questions require a yes or no answer to have contestants admit to a secret. There are also special questions such as "My Own Question" where the host can come up with any question she wishes and the contestant must answer. As the host draws questions from the deck, she can draw "Dish the Dirt" or "Take the Test" cards. These can be used at any point in the game, even if there is a new host or contestant, to force a player to either tell the story behind an admission or have a contestant take the lie detector test even if all other players assume the player is telling the truth.

    Answering Questions

    • When you're acting as the contestant, you must answer the question being asked. The only exception is if you've acquired a "Pass" token by answering a previous question with the "Pass" icon printed on the card. You can attempt to lie, but if the judges catch you in the lie, they'll force you to take the lie detector test. You can either change your answer and tell the truth or try to beat the lie detector. Being outed as a liar means you must move your player token down the game board and your turn ends. If you beat the lie detector or the judges accept your answer as truth, move up the game board and take another turn.

    Lie Detector

    • If forced to take a lie detector test, you will have to place your index finger inside the included lie detector. The test will measure changes in heart rate and body temperature, which will elevate during a lie. You can attempt to beat the test by remaining calm and being confident in your answers, even if they're lies.
