How to Build a Start Up Character in D&D

Dungeons and Dragons, also known as D&D, is a role-playing game set in a fantasy world. The dungeon master is the person guiding the players by verbally telling them what is happening to their characters. Players respond by using their character's abilities to solve problems and to fight enemies. Dice are rolled to resolve fights, and character's strengths and weaknesses are based on their statistics, which are also determined by rolling the dice. Characters with different skill levels and abilities combine their strengths in D&D to fight enemies, and creating a balanced character is important to your team.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the class you would like your character to be. D&D has classes such as thief, warrior, hunter and cleric; each class has its own abilities and weaknesses.

    • 2

Write the six ability types you will be rolling stats for down the side of your paper. These ability classes are strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom and character.

    • 3

Roll four six-sided dice, also known as D6, for the first trait: strength. Remove the dice with the smallest number. Add the remaining dice together and write the number next to strength. Repeat for each trait.

    • 4

Select a race for your character such as human, orc or dwarf. Each class has certain races it can be.

    • 5

Name your character, and finish creating his personality by selecting his alignment. D&D uses different alignments to indicate your character's motivation. For instance, lawful good characters follow the law and are motivated by morality and the urge to help others. Chaotic evil characters are motivated by only their own needs and the urge to do evil.
