How to Tell If a Pokemon Booster Box Has a Good Card

Collecting Pokemon cards can be an exciting, yet lengthy and expensive process. Cards can be collected by buying packs, boxes or individual cards. A booster box will usually contain 36 packs, and each pack will generally have 9 to 11 cards. You are always guaranteed to have at least a handful of good cards in your booster box. While there is no guaranteed way of knowing what cards will be in your booster box, there are a few ways to have a general knowledge of what you may receive.

  Know from experience what types of cards you will receive in a booster pack. In any single booster pack, you are guaranteed to have at least a holographic (also known as Holo) card, one or two rare cards, and two uncommon cards. Knowing that, you can find the odds of receiving the card you want.

  Decide which generation of Pokemon cards you are looking for. A base booster box will contain Pokemon from the first generation. A Diamon &Pearl box will contain cards pertaining to the fourth generation of Pokemon. Cards from a Diamond &Pearl box are compatible with the EX series of the trading card game. A Black &White box is the first installment to the fifth generation of cards.

  Buy any cards that you have not received in a booster box individually. If you are looking for a specific card, it will be much cheaper this way. Any collector knows that buying booster boxes can be expensive. And if there happens to be nothing worthwhile in a box, it can be a real letdown. Buying individually will let you know exactly what you will be getting.
