Places to Play Dungeons & Dragons

Dungeons &Dragons is a traditional, tabletop role-playing game first produced by Tactical Studies Rules in 1974. The game is takes place primarily in the imagination of the players, with player characters and non-player characters represented by sets of skills and attributes that are recorded on a character sheet. When playing Dungeons &Dragons, it is essential you have a place where you will not be disturbed or interrupted. Here are some ideas for places to play a game of Dungeons &Dragons.
  1. In Your Home

    • One of the most obvious places to play a game of Dungeons &Dragons is inside your own home. Be sure you can find a place where everyone will be comfortable and where you are not likely to be interrupted. Two possible places are a living room or kitchen. Find a place where everyone will have a place to sit and a flat surface to write on. A large kitchen table with plenty of chairs is ideal.

    In a Dormitory Common Area

    • If you live in a college dorm, you will likely have access to a common area or assembly room. These rooms are typically large, with comfortable seating and tables. If you have such an area in your dorm, check with your resident adviser to find out the procedure for reserving the room.

At a Comic Book or Hobby Shop

    • One of the best places to play a game of Dungeons &Dragons is at a comic book store or a hobby/gaming shop. Many hobby shops allow people to play role-playing games in a back room for a nominal cost, or even for free. This situation is good for the shop owner due to the items that they can sell to the gamers. This is also a great way to find gamers, if you have a lack of players in your game.

    In the Woods

    • Perhaps you are playing a wilderness campaign and would like to choose an environment that reflects your game setting. You can plan a camping trip and play your game in the woods. This is a creative option that will help your players get into character and understand the setting that the characters are traveling through.

    In a Dungeon

    • Similar to playing in the woods for a wilderness game, you could play in a dungeon for a dungeon or cave game. It is not likely that you have access to an actual dungeon, but you can decorate a basement or garage to look like a dungeon environment. When decorating your dungeon, let your imagination run away with you! Visit a Halloween store and purchase some inexpensive decorations to adorn your space. The creepier, the better!
