How to Make Potions in Dungeons & Dragons

Dungeons &Dragons is a fantasy role-playing game where players use virtual avatars to explore a world filled with magic and danger. To aid in confronting this danger, players can equip their characters with potions that improve character skills or instantly heal injuries. Finding the perfect potion in a hoard of treasure unlikely, however, so as an added perk, players with the correct skills can make their own potions, improving the survivability of their character and the adventuring party as a whole.

Instructions

    • 1

      Take the Ritual Caster feat during character creation or as a result of level advancement. The feat is available at 1st level for the Cleric and Wizard classes.

      Locate a ritual book or scroll containing the brew potion ritual. As a player you can purchase these items from a store selling magical equipment and supplies or by finding one as loot during adventuring.

      Master the brew potion ritual for the potion by studying it for eight game hours without interruption.

      Purchase the potion components from a supply shop. The cost of the components is equal to the cost of the potion itself as listed in the dungeon master's handbook. Mark the purchase on your character sheet.

      Perform the ritual in a location where you will be uninterrupted for one hour. Remove the components from your sheet as you've used them up, and then add the potion to your equipment list. No skill check is required and the potion created is permanent until consumed.
