In the tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons &Dragons (D&D), wizards are typically unable to use heavy armor because it prevents them from casting spells. Magic items are often used to help negate this penalty, and bracers of armor are a commonly used item for this purpose. They take up the arms equipment slot, and when used in conjunction with other magic items and spells, can help increase a wizard's survivability greatly.
