How to Make the Character Lycanthrope in Dungeons & Dragons 3.5

"Dungeons and Dragons" version 3.5 expands the classic roleplaying game with a rules system that allows for an increase in character customization to match the playing style of the group. This extension of characterization includes rules for handling the lycanthrope affliction. Lycanthropy is the condition of becoming a were-creature, a person who changes into an animal form during the full moon. With rules covering not only the initial transformation, but also the consequences of continuing lycanthropy, the 3.5 edition of the game makes it easier to include lycanthropy as an ongoing part of the storyline that affects every aspect of the character.

Instructions

    • 1

Have the character afflicted by the curse of lycanthropy by creating an in-game situation where the character is bitten by a dungeon master-controlled non-player character or monster carrying the affliction.

    • 2

Run the character as normal after the bite occurs until the next full moon. Have the character assume animal form during the full moon, then have the dungeon master running the game take over the character's actions during the full moon period, running the character as a non-player character with the same alignment and skills as the animal.

    • 3

Have the player roll a 20-sided die with a requirement of rolling a 15 or above, adjusted by ant Wisdom modifiers to remember becoming an animal. If successful, the character becomes aware of his lycanthropy and can make efforts, if desired, to seek a cure. If not, the character continues on, unaware of his animal form.

    • 4

Allow the player to retain control of his character's actions in animal form if aware of the lycanthropy. Make the player roll a Will save using a 20-sided die with a 15 or better required modified by subtracting the Will save modifier and adding one for each change. A failed save means a permanent shift in the character's non-animal form's alignment into the same alignment as the animal form. This means the player must play his character's actions according to the new alignment.
