Utensils
You can use utensils, such as a spoon, to play games during feeding. Most parents have heard of the game called "Here Comes the Airplane." In this game, you put the food in a spoon and pretend that it is a plane flying into the child's mouth. Both older babies and toddlers find this game very amusing and they will be distracted from the actual feeding.
Touch
Allowing your baby to touch the food can be a fun activity. This is a great game for finger foods like cereal. You can ask your child to use the food to build objects, such as the sun. As she becomes distracted, you can then put some of the food in your baby's mouth without any protest.
Hide and Seek
With a baby older than 5 months, you can show him the food and then suddenly move the food out of his sight, then ask him, "Where did it go? Can you find it?" When the baby begins to look around with his head, bring the food back. This type of game can be very stimulating for a young child.
Feeding the Parent
You can ask your child to put food in your mouth at the same time you are feeding her. For example, you put a spoon full of food in the child's mouth and ask her to now do the same thing for you. With children under the age of 1, it is a better option to use finger foods during this game.
