How to Use 40K Green Stuff

Green Stuff is a type of Kneadatite epoxy putty, packaged and sold as a craft supply for sculptors. It is the most common go-to modeling compound used by hobbyists who make gaming miniatures such as those for Warhammer 40000. Green Stuff is known as a difficult medium to work with, due to the challenges associated with preparing, mixing and caring for the epoxy putty. Kneadatite also manufactures White Stuff, which is more flexible than Green Stuff, and Brown Stuff, which dries harder and is more durable than Green Stuff.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the gloves, and coat the gloves and the hobby knife with a thin layer of petroleum jelly to prevent the putty from sticking. The putty will adhere to any surface it touches. It is a good idea to line a table or counter top with wax paper before you begin to work if the surface needs to be protected.

    • 2

Remove only the amount of putty you need from the packaging. Use the hobby knife to trim out the center of the strip where the blue and yellow putties meet. This section is cured because the two putties have been in contact in the packaging and can cause problems like irregularities in your figures.

    • 3

Knead one part yellow with one part blue until they are thoroughly mixed. Allow to sit for 15 minutes to harden slightly. The putty is now ready to sculpt.

    • 4

Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the inside of a flexible latex or plastic mold, and press the putty into the mold a little at a time, applying it to the deepest sections first.

    • 5

Continue to press pieces of the putty into the mold until the entire form is filled. Green Stuff sets in approximately 90 minutes.

    • 6

Peel back the mold to remove the Green Stuff. You can now further sculpt the molded design using the hobby knife, burnishers and other sculpting tools. The Green Stuff will completely harden within 24 hours.
