Magnifying Glass Games
Inspector Clouseau of "Pink Panther" fame was an American television icon. He always had a magnifying glass to his eye looking for some clue that was usually right before his eyes. Kids love to use magnifying glasses. Meld the "Where's Waldo?" series with magnifying glass used for a fun hunt. For example, you can hide small words on a large, elaborate collage and send the kids searching for them, or hide small items around your backyard and direct the kids to participate in a scavenger hunt.
Fingerprint Games
Making a slide of your fingerprint is both easy and fun. Use finger paints or open a pen and have the students impress each of their fingers into the ink. While this activity is messy, it can be cleaned up with wet wipes. Some activities involving fingerprints include writing names on the back of two copies of the slides and playing a matching game with them, or comparing the fingerprint or handprint of a person to an animal. Keep these fingerprints on file for child safety reasons.
Hair Games
Use a microscope or magnifying glass to compare different hair samples in terms of color, shape and thickness. Alternatively, you can compare hairs of people with those of a pet. Explain DNA and play detective to discuss where you can find a hair sample for a DNA search.
