How to Make Naruto in Mutants & Masterminds

"Mutants and Masterminds" is a derivative of the Generic Universal Roleplaying System (GURPS), a system for creating roleplaying games that are ready for crossover. In it, players assume the role of superheroes and engage in epic campaigns similar to those in "Batman" or "Superman." Although as an anime ninja Naruto doesn't fit perfectly into these paradigms, he comes close enough to work within the "Mutant and Masterminds" universe. A little player discretion will be necessary during character creation, as you will not be able to perfectly detail Naruto's abilities using this system.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a hero archetype. Of the 13 options provided in "Mutants and Masterminds," Energy Controller and Martial Artist fit him best. Each capture an aspect of his abilities, but also excludes others. For instance, as an Energy Controller, he'll have access to a facsimile of his fox-tail chakra techniques, but he won't have more generic martial artist abilities. In contrast, as a martial artist he'll be able to perform ninja feats like wall jumps, but he won't have the ability to draw upon the fox-tail chakra. The choice between these two paths is up to you.

    • 2

Assign Naruto's power points. The amount of power points you have to spend is up to your game master's discretion. Regardless of the specific numbers, Naruto -- as a ninja -- will favor certain traits. Of all his traits, "Dexterity" would be the highest, reflecting his speed and reflexes. Next he would favor "Strength" and "Charisma," the first because of his strenuous training and the second because of his open-hearted and enthusiastic demeanor. Following these traits would be "Constitution," "Wisdom" and "Intelligence" in descending order. For all his talents and cheer, Naruto is a simple-minded character and would have the low "Intelligence" score to match.

    • 3

Set Naruto's "Defense" and "Toughness." Once again, these will vary depending on the power level set by the game master, though Naruto will favor "Defense" over "Toughness" -- reflecting his fast reflexes as well as his small frame.

    • 4

Calculate his secondary traits, such as "Initiative." A formula for each of these is provided on the character sheet. Depending on how many power levels your game master has given you and how you assigned these points, the derived traits will vary. Nevertheless, as long as you assigned him traits true to his character, Naruto will have secondary traits that favor speed.
