Dungeons & Dragons Basics

"Dungeons and Dragons" has many complex rules that dictate how the game is played and how characters react to each other. A few basic rules influence all the rest of the more specific rules.
  1. Dungeon Master

    • The Dungeon Master is important for every game of Dungeons and Dragons. He writes the story and controls all of the monsters and villains in the game. He also decides where treasure is located and the goal of the game. He must balance carefully the pace of the story and makes sure players follow the rules.

    Equipment

    • All Dungeon and Dragon games need character sheets, pencils, rule books and several sets of dice. Players keep track of their characters' progress and stats on the character sheets. Dice include a 4-sided die, four 6-sided dice, one 8-sided die and two 10-sided dice. The dice are rolled to help determine whether players are successful in any of the ventures they perform.

    Characters

    • There must be at least two players with characters per Dungeons and Dragon game. Characters are designed by players according to the rule books. They have multiple performance statistics that dictate how well they perform in the game. These stats include strength, speed, stamina, charisma and many others.
