Instructions

Print out the mask design template (see Resources section) for the face plate, neck guard and neck band and cut them out. Place the templates on cardboard and cut them out. Cut out two face plate templates. Tape the pieces together and try the "helmet" on. Make any adjustments needed. Blow up a balloon and place it inside the model helmet to hold the shape.

Mix 2 cups of flour, 2 cups of water and 1 tbsp. of salt to create papier mache. Stir until it is in a liquid, batter-like form. Cut the newspapers into 1- to 2-inch-wide strips. Dip the strips in the paper mache, removing the excess liquid. Place the strips on the helmet. Make the strips overlap one another, so it will create a hard shell. Apply one coat of papier mache, then let it dry completely. Apply a second and third coat, letting it dry completely after each application.

Spray-paint the helmet in the desired color. Typical color combinations include gold and black.
